Volunteers have been making a difference at MPM long before it opened its doors in 1884. Today, MPM's corps of more than 300 volunteers log thousands of hours each year engaging directly with the public. Volunteers take on endeavors such as staffing our "stop spot" carts, interpreting exhibits, running films in the Nickelodeon silent-film theater, engaging children as a member of our Bug Patrol, and some earning docent status.

Interested in becoming an MPM volunteer? Join us for a Saturday New Volunteer Orientation. Details below under "How to Become a Volunteer."

How to Become a Volunteer

Potential volunteers should download and return the Volunteer Application form to the Volunteer Office (address is on application):

Once you've completed this form and returned it to the Volunteer Office, attendance at an interview and attendance at a New Volunteer Orientation are necessary to understand the procedures for entering/leaving the building, finding your way around MPM, and understanding how to record your hours & schedule yourself via the Internet. Training for the volunteer opportunity you've prioritized on the application will take place at a separate session, usually on a different date. (Training for a date-specific event takes place before the event.)
